I've Lived This. Twice.

The real reason for the Balanced Gut Solution, and why it's different from everything else you've tried.

I mean it. I have sat where you're sitting, more than once, and felt the confusion, the frustration, and the quiet grief of not recognizing my own body. That's why I do this work. And it's why I built something different.

It Started Earlier Than You'd Think

My relationship with gut health didn't begin in my 40s. It started at puberty, right when my hormones shifted for the first time, and my digestion shifted right along with them.

I developed classic IBS-D: urgent, unpredictable, uncomfortable, and relentless. By the time I was 15, I was already an expert at locating every bathroom in every building I entered. I thought about food differently than everyone around me. I carried antacids and anti-diarrheal medications everywhere, not out of anxiety, but because I genuinely couldn't trust my body. It was pretty common for me to excuse myself during a sleepover, and one of my friends eventually discovered my little stash of remedies. They gave it a nickname: "Meg's Sh!t Kit." There were more embarrassing moments in those years than I care to count. Thank goodness for great friends and a decent sense of humor.

As a young adult, I was eventually diagnosed with severe gluten intolerance, likely Celiac Disease, though the testing we have today wasn't available to me then. That diagnosis was validating in a way I hadn't expected. I went fully gluten-free, and for the first time in years, I felt something close to control. My symptoms calmed. I got pieces of my life back.

That experience changed everything about the direction I took. I started working with a dietitian who helped me navigate a gluten-free diet, and the connection between food and how I felt was genuinely groundbreaking to me. It's what drove me to pursue my master's degree in food and nutrition, complete my Coordinated Program in Dietetics, and become a Registered Dietitian. I wanted to understand what had happened to my body, and make sure other women didn't spend years figuring it out alone.

Then, In My 40s, It Came Back. In a Different Form.

Sixteen years into my career, I thought I had a handle on things. I knew the research. I knew the interventions. I had helped hundreds of clients navigate their own digestive struggles.

And then perimenopause arrived and humbled me completely, not just as a woman, but as a dietitian who thought she understood how the body worked.

It started subtly. A little extra bloating, some unexplained weight gain. Then it wasn't subtle at all. My digestion completely changed. This time, instead of urgency, I was dealing with persistent constipation and a heaviness I couldn't shake. My energy dropped. My hair started thinning. My clothes stopped fitting the same way, even when nothing in my diet had changed.

You wake up feeling normal. You make a healthy breakfast, pack a thoughtful lunch, head out the door. You sit down in the car and your waistband cuts in, even though your pants fit perfectly an hour ago. By afternoon the pressure builds. By evening you're bloated and uncomfortable, that healthy lunch sitting like a brick. You pushed through a workout anyway, and now you're standing in the parking lot just thinking: what is happening to me?

And the most maddening part? You didn't do anything to cause it.

I lived that. Repeatedly. As a dietitian, someone who was supposed to have the answers.

What I came to understand, in a way I hadn't fully grasped before, was that this wasn't random. My body was responding to a new wave of hormonal, metabolic, and neurological changes, and it needed a completely different approach than anything I'd used before. Navigating that personally deepened everything about how I now work with clients. I'm not just looking at this through a clinical lens. I'm living it alongside you.

That's what I mean when I say I've lived this twice.

The Pattern I Couldn't Ignore

While I was navigating my own changes, I kept seeing the same story play out in my practice, over and over again.

Women in their late 30s, 40s, and 50s coming in saying nearly identical things. Bloated all the time. Foods they'd eaten for years suddenly causing problems. Clothes that fit in the morning that didn't button by evening. Exhausted in a way that sleep couldn't fix. Feeling like a stranger in their own body.

These weren't women who didn't know what to do. Many were incredibly disciplined, eating well, exercising, genuinely trying. But their bodies weren't responding the way they used to, and nobody had explained why. The details were always a little different. The story was almost always the same: daily bloating and distension, unpredictable digestion, new food sensitivities, weight that wouldn't shift, a fatigue that just wouldn't lift, irregular cycles, mood swings, brain fog, and a slow erosion of confidence in their own body.

What I could see clearly, both as a clinician and as someone living it, was that these symptoms weren't separate, unrelated problems. They were the result of hormonal shifts, changes in gut function, blood sugar instability, stress, and disrupted sleep all colliding at once. And no one was connecting those dots for them.

What stood out most was that these women felt like they were doing something wrong. They weren't. They just didn't have the right framework.

Why We Built Something Different

There's no shortage of advice out there. Try intermittent fasting. Cut out gluten. Take a probiotic. Fix your microbiome. And when you bring these concerns to your doctor, you're often told it's "just part of getting older," which is technically true and completely unhelpful at the same time.

My business partner Ava Safir and I got tired of watching women collect piecemeal advice that never added up to real change. Honestly, we got tired of experiencing it ourselves.

So we built the Balanced Gut Solution, a six-month structured coaching program that does what most approaches don't: it treats your symptoms as connected, because they are, and it addresses them in the right order, at the right pace, for your body specifically.
